I design jewellery because I love people. I love to listen and establish meaningful connections. I love hearing what matters most to my clients. I then use this information to transform sincere and heartfelt emotion into a tangible one of a kind, precious piece of fine jewellery intentionally designed to bring love, joy and comfort for the individual for whom it is intended.

I will help you find the perfect ethically and sustainably sourced stone(s) while providing a comprehensive diamond and gemstone education.
II. FIND YOUR STONE
Once the design concept has been solidified and the stones decided upon, I create a scale drawing of the piece in exact detail which in turn makes for a beautiful memento and keepsake.
III. THE FINAL SKETCH
It is all in the details! Each piece is crafted in North America using ethically and sustainably sourced stones and recycled precious metals. The final piece, upon passing the highest of quality control standards, is lovingly packaged in a beautiful wooden box along with the scale drawing displayed in a vellum wax sealed package.I will help you find the perfect ethically and sustainably sourced stone(s) while providing a comprehensive diamond and gemstone education.
IV. PRODUCTION AND PRESENTATION

The process begins with an initial design consultation where you will be warmly greeted and made to feel at ease. This is an educational experience and you will learn about diamonds, gemstones and precious metals. Making educated decisions is very important to us! We will discuss design preferences and what materials should be used. In follow up emails, quotes, timelines and finalization of the design concept will be exchanged. A graphite scale drawing of the finalized design will be presented, and a 50% deposit will be required to secure the stones and begin production of the ring. Upon completion, the ring will be presented in a beautiful walnut box with an appraisal and a linen folio to display the scale drawing.
What does the custom design process involve?

Yes, an appointment is required as we are a design studio and not a retail showroom. Booking a design consultation is complimentary and allows for a positive client experience where individual needs and questions can be met and answered in a tranquil environment.

Is commissioning a custom design ring within my budget? Absolutely! We are very respectful of individual budgets and look forward to working with your price range in mind.

Ethical and sustainable sourcing is very important to us. Using recycled precious metals is an excellent way to help reduce environmental impact while still maintaining the same high quality standard of gold as sourced from a mine.
Why do you use recycled precious metals?

We have a zero-tolerance policy towards conflict diamonds, and use only ethically and sustainably sourced stones. We offer Canadian diamonds, natural diamonds and lab grown diamonds.
What diamonds do you use in your jewellery?

This is something that needs to be considered case by case. If your diamonds and gemstones are chipped and have abrasions, we do not recommend using them in the creation of a new piece. If this is something that you are considering, just make an inquiry and we can determine if your materials can be used.
Can you use my old gold and stones to create a new piece of jewellery?

Do you offer personalized engraving?

We highly recommend having your piece brought in annually for cleaning and inspection. It is inevitable that stones will loosen in their setting over time. Having the piece inspected regularly helps to detect loose stones and tighten them before further damage occurs. An inspection, professional polish and ultrasonic cleaning is always complimentary for any Sonja Deklerk piece of fine jewellery. Avoid exposure to chemicals like chlorine bleach or those containing ammonia. At home, most colored gems and diamonds can be cleaned with warm water, mild dish soap and a soft brush.
How do I care for and maintain my piece?

Ideally your ring will fit snugly with some resistance going over the knuckle. If the ring comes off without any resistance, it is too loose and you risk losing your ring. If the ring is too tight and causing any level of discomfort, the ring should be sized up accordingly. It is important to understand that it is completely normal for your finger size to fluctuate throughout the day for a variety of reasons including cold or hot weather, salt intake, or even the time of day.
